Amoako Boafo: I Bring Home with Me

Following its London debut, the second chapter of the four-part exhibition series with Amoako Boafo was unveiled in Los Angeles in January 2026. Presented at Roberts Projects, the exhibition features an immersive architectural installation in which DeRoche Projects has recreated Amoako’s primary painting studio in Accra, Ghana. Continuing the series’ exploration of community as both subject and method, the studio is a space where conversations begin, ideas are shaped, and art and life continually inform one another.

At the core of this evolving series is a belief in architecture as an active framework. It is a way of cultivating interaction, fostering collaboration, and shifting how we experience contemporary art. In each chapter of the exhibition, the architecture evolves in response to its location, reflecting both the artist’s journey and the cultural context of the city. In Los Angeles, this takes the form of a constructed environment that does not simply represent Amoako’s studio, but reimagines it as a space for activation. It invites audiences into the rhythms, materials and rituals of his creative life.

Amoako’s studio in Accra is located in a colonial-era building from the 1940s and includes many rooms, each with its own role and history. For this installation, we focus on the main studio, where the artist paints, reflects and gathers with a close community of artists, friends and thinkers. This space is not just the physical core of his practice, it is also where the concept for this exhibition series was born and where its themes have been discussed, shaped and refined.
